Ruby Sparks

It's simple really, the first 30 minutes was right on the mark, it was a cross between the intriguing authenticity of The Perks of Being a Wallflower and the left of centre humour of Arrested Development. Unfortunately after the 30 minute mark, the movie began to chase its own tail.

The remarkable portions of the plot were exhausted in the open throws which left the audience devastated and, I must say, bored for the remainder of the film.

Around a hour and a quarter into the movie things got weird. I really couldn't stand watching as the chief female protagonist and the movie's namesake, Ruby, became aware of the true nature of her own existence  and the truly underdeveloped male lead, Calvin, decided to wield the power of his typewriter and destroy any credibility or solidity the film had built early on.

In the end, a movie that started with tremendous promise was destroyed by a weak, insubstantial and incredulous plot.
